Master Photographers Association award

In Photographic, photography on 31/10/2007 at 2:48 pm

I was presented with a Presidential award “in recognition of my contribution to The Master Photographers Association” at the weekend in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Here’s the official picture by Keith Trainor of Eventportraits.co.uk

showing me receiving the Award certificate from The President, Fiona Alison.

It’s the first Presidential award to be presented in three years so to say I’m really honoured is an understatement – I’m dead chuffed!! (as they say in Yorkshire)

Just got back

MS Braemarfrom a cruise from Southampton (UK) to Barbados with the Fred Olson line – lecturing on photography and had a great time.  Wow, have I missed blogging!

As I was lecturing I took a couple of images on the cruise then put a slide show together to give people an idea of some detail shots that they could look for while on holiday – rather than just straight forward snaps.

although there were some good “ordinary” views to be taken as well.

As we were sailing west there were spectacular sunsets almost every evening.

I used the fantastic Ricoh Caplio GX100 camera – it never fails to amaze me, this tiny camera can produce such big images – and I don’t mean just the file size but the value of the image as well.

We called into Tenerife but it was closed (Sunday and a Bank Holiday) so I took some closed doors!

but my fav. of the trip was this stock shot one evening while sailing.

Cheers for now!

Saturdays wedding – My last of the year.

In Wedding, photography on 07/10/2007 at 7:56 am

Yesterdays wedding (Sat. 6th Oct.) was my last one for this year and what a fun time we had shooting it.

Sarah and Ian were up for anything and everything that I threw at them including running about like mad things!

running

and bending it like Beckham

I had trouble at the brides house trying to photograph the buttonholes as I couldn’t find a suitable background – until I saw the white bath and just photographed them in the bottom -

perfect background with just a hint of shadow.

All in all it was the perfect wedding to finish off my year – great couple, plenty of time to do things and really good guests that behaved while I did the pictures and didn’t try to steal too many of mine.

I’m now busy writing my seminar notes for the cruise to Barbados – sailing Tuesday with 8 one hour talks to do on the way.  If only I knew some good photographer jokes………….

Decisions, decisions.

I’ve got 2 images of 2 images that I just can’t decide which is the best one.

The first choice is from a wedding where there was a very pretty lake and woodland BUT the water in the lake was a horrible green.

so I changes it slightly in Photoshop but am now not sure if I like it or not.

Anyone any preference?

The other one is a view which I think is like a painting from the 1700’s (although I have left in the electricity pylons) and on one image i’ve turned down the saturation but Mandy, my wife, still likes the full colour one the best.

Again, is there anyone out there who has an opinion about either one of them???????

Feel free to rant… :-)

Phototraining Images from Lightroom

In Photographic, photography, travel on 01/10/2007 at 1:03 am

Starting to prepare more images from Oliveto Citra to go onto my main web site.

I can’t wait to move out to this lovely Italian town and start my training classes in April next year.

Imaging having all these backgrounds to work with.

I’m sure we will have some real good fun – just imaging 6 keen students plus a model and a few of the locals watching on.  I can’t wait.

The model here is my long suffering wife – she hates having to stand somewhere while I look for the best light etc.  After about 12 years of doing it she’s glad she only has to do it while I check places out and not for the students.  Even though she is still my favourite model she has “gone off the boil” but only as far as photography is concerned!

These locations are less than 2 minutes walk from each other so, where would YOU put the model in any of the above pictures?
